Project Methodolgy

These pages are under construction, but not in the normal sense of that disclaimer. Though they do represent a work in progress, it is a work of historical and archaeological research rather one of HTML authorship.

Vast amounts of archaeological material has been excavated and never published. Often, as in this case, the excavators have died, in other situations the cost is prohibitive or they just never get around to it. These pages represent an attempt to develop procedures and software that will present such material to the World Wide Web with a minimum of manual input and almost no knowledge of HTML. In fact, except for less than 10 minutes of manual touch-up to eliminate duplicate thumbnails for the images scanned at different resolutions this set has been untouched since the automatic preparation

We are presenting this material, at least at first, without any editorial comment. In time, as the project continues we hope to make sense of it but in the meantime the hope is that the knowledge that this material exists will be of some use or interest to someone.

With luck perhaps some of those who remember this excavation or have some light to throw on the material presented will stumble on this site and any material offered can be quickly added or linked to these pages.

If you fall into this category, or know of someone who does, please get in touch with the participants.
